Hi there, internet fans. It’s Ryan Perry with Simple Biz Support and today I’d like to talk to you about, “how to compose a shot for your video blog?”

What exactly do I mean by compose a shot? Well what I mean by is, “how do I fit in this rectangular box that I’m shooting from the video camera?” Well, this is what I like to see. I like to see myself slightly off-centered, not directly in the center of the camera and I like to have the top of the camera cut me off just above my head, and right about chest level on the bottom-side. Now the the one caveat would be is I’m not doing a product demonstration. If I had to actually show a very large product such as a ski or maybe I was doing something with a car, then I’d want to shoot the car or shoot the video differently. But in this type of me just speaking to the camera video blog, this the ideal situation.

The other thing you want to do is kinda get an idea of how close to the camera you should be. Not only am I out of my lighting right now, but I’m a little bit too close and too personal and unless you have a really need for that, most people don’t want to see me that close. The other flip side to that is going to be composing the shot where I have a lot of white space behind me and I’m very small. Seeing how I am the subject matter right now, ideally I’m going to position myself, where I fill in about one-third of the entire frame. The other nice thing about off-setting just a little bit from the camera is that it allows this empty white space over here that I can now put text, graphics, a picture-in-picture. So remember when your setting up a camera and your doing your video blog, pay attention to how you compose the shot. Ideally, I’m gonna take up about one-third, and I cut myself off just above the head, just about chest level and off-set myself just a little bit.
