Google vs Yellow Pages

The Yellow Pages has been with us long before most of us were born. Now that the Internet is slowly encroaching their territory, the Yellow Pages wants people to know how effective they are as opposed to their online counterparts. However, the online people say otherwise. In this war between Google vs Yellow Pages, who is right? Which is better?

In their quest to answer these questions once and for all, Melbourne SEO services conducted a survey in the streets of Melbourne with questions like: “How do you search for products and services you need?,” “What search engine do you use most?” and “How often do you use Google?”

The answer became clear once the results were tallied. A huge 53.85% of those asked said that they haven’t even touched the Yellow Pages the past year, while a unanimous 100% said they used google every day. Looks like Google wins hands down! So what do the Yellow Pages have over this Google vs Yellow Pages war? Very little. This survey by Melbourne SEO services is probably theĀ best viral marketing video they’ve done in recent times. So be sure to check it out and vote for it to spread the word.

Unfortunately for the Yellow Pages, this survey is but the tip of the iceberg. According to SuperMedia (the Yellow Pages of The United States), there has been a steep decline in profits for the year 2009. This trend will most likely continue for the following years to come as the Internet slowly takes hold of all information.

From all indications, it seems that Google has the advantage in thisĀ Google vs Yellow Pages war. Comparing the two, which would you choose? To search for something using a big fat yellow book that makes your eyes squint, or having just to type what you want and almost instantly get the results you need with the touch of a button? The Yellow Pages still have life though, the question is for how long? As long as people still use it, it will stay, but how long will this last? The number of readers are fast declining, so prepare for the end of the Yellow Pages soon.

The people don’t care about how the two differ, how they work, their ins and outs, etc. What the people want is getting what they want, fast, simple and easy. With this, Google has the clear advantage. If you were to record the time it takes to make a search between the two, it is almost assured that Google will win all the time. However, if you are using an Internet connection that tuns at a snail’s pace and what you are looking for is named “Aaron’s”, then in that scenario, the Yellow Pages win.

At any rate, Google is slowly becoming the hub for information and resources that was once the place of the Yellow Pages. If even books are threatened by technological advancements, what chance do the Yellow Pages have against the juggernaut that is Google?
