Hi there internet fans, it’s Ryan Perry with Simple Biz Support. And today I want to talk about a Google Chrome extension called “Check My Links“. It will only work with the Chrome browser. What’s really cool about this is that, if you’re a non-techie and you’re concerned about 404 errors. And a 404 error is, when you have a bad link on your website, so you’re linking within your website or you’re linking to another website and that link, for whatever reason, doesn’t work. Either you typo-ed or if you’re linking to an outside website, that page may have been removed by the web owner.

Now this is really a neat tool for people who are non-techie, especially if you’re a blogger or if you’re a small business owner, managing your own website. What you’d want to do is just go to Chrome Extensions. The name of the software, or the plug-in I should say, actually technically it’s called an extension, is “Check My Links“. All you need to do, is click to add to Chrome which I’ve already done. You’re gonna get out of here, and let’s go ahead and open up a webpage. And this is a webpage, this is Search Engine Watch. It’s gonna have multiple, multiple, multiple links embedded in it. And once you add the extension, it’s gonna give you this little button right here in your browser.

Go ahead and click on it, and what it’s doing now is, it’s going through and it’s checking all the links on the page. Anything that shows up in green is a good valid link and you can see that it totally, it found 136 links, 132 are good. It actually found four bad links. Now, the downside is, that if you click on the four bad, it’s not going to direct you, you’re gonna have to go find them. However again, this will actually go through and highlight all the links that it was able to find and highlight ‘em in green. So here’s one right here where it’s saying Space Invaders is returning a 404 error. Let’s go check it out. And sure enough, it is a 404 error. And I have a feeling they put that in there on purpose.

Check My Links, a great tool for you small business owners who are managing your own website, and for bloggers. This is Ryan Perry with Simple Biz Support. I hope you found this information helpful.
