The first steps on the internet marketing road can be tricky, full of pot holes, and full of confusion. Suddenly you’re sacrificing 14 hour days “working” with nothing to show for it. Sadly, most people have a far greater chance of failing after maybe years of effort. And in the end they owe more than they did in the beginning. If a person already has money problems, the results can be even worse. The main reason for this is people think Internet marketing is extremely easy as portrayed by the Gurus. People believe the myth that riches can be found before the end of the week with no work or effort expended.This is not truth. Naturally a lot of stories about online marketing millionaires are true. There are lots of them. But you may not know all they went through to get to that point. Years of learning, trying and taking action, and hard work. Learning without action equals no results. So you can’t allow yourself to get stuck in the perpetual learning phase. Setting achievable goals and realizing there will be hard work involved is the smart thing to do. The same rules apply for success whether you’re online, or offline. Now let’s move into some of the more common missteps committed by those who are new to online marketing.

Failing to build a list of targeted subscribers is something a lot of internet marketers do. Maybe you’ve been in business for years. That’s great! But if you have not built your own marketing list, then you really have not been building a business. Your first order of business should build an email list. Why? You’ll be able to make more sale on the front and back end, and you’ll have the ability to make repeat sales to them.

One other common error made by internet marketing newbies is to get themselves subscribed to many different marketing newsletters and find themselves exposed to hundreds of ideas and systems all at once. When you get too much information, you can end up not knowing what to do so you end up doing nothing. The emails, sales pitches and opportunities just start accumulating, each one pulling you in a different direction. This kind of information overload puts the brain under too much stress, and often leads to inaction.There is a simple way to get this problem under control; unsubscribe from most of these lists and only stay on one or two that have ideas you think you’ll really take action on. What you want to focus on is action, not information. Action makes you more confident about your abilities. There will be failures, but soon you’ll realize that they were replaced by success.

Always remember this: Plan your work and work your plan. It will see you through to the finish line. Ineffective planning will lead you nowhere. Write all your goals on paper and break them down into achievable goals, and work on them one step at a time.
